BIBLICAL NEW YEAR
5772
Abib 1, 5772 | April 5, 2011
"And the Lord (YHVH) spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land Egqypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you." Exodus 12:1-2
The Escape Project's Biblical Hebrew Calendar, diverse from mondern-day Roman calendars beginning with January, and rabbinic Hebrew calendars beginning with "Tishri" (a non-biblical title for the seventh month Ethanim -- I Kings 8:2), begins near the first day of spring in the month Abib:
"And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bandage; for by strength of hand the Lord (YHVH) brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten. This day came ye out in the month Abib." Exodus 13:3-4
Understanding that God is the same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), The Escape Project designed a Biblical Hebrew Calendar which begins and ends according to the Scriptures, and which includes the Holy Days or Feasts of the Lord as ordained to be observed for a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings (Leviticus 23 - ref.v.14).
The Biblical Hebrew Calendar is a balance of solar and lunar years. Because the lunar month has approximately 29 1/2 days, the Hebrew calendar months generally alternate between 29 and 30 days. Multiplying twelve times 29 1/2 yields only 354, thus leaving the calendar year about eleven days short. Hence, there are seven "leap years" in every nineteen, in which an additional month fills the gap. The twelfth month of the Hebrew calendar is "Adar;" the thirteenth month, when it occours, is called, "Adar II."
