BIBLICAL SABBATH (SHABBAT)

Every Seventh Day

Exodus 20:8-11; Leviticus 23:2-3; Deuteronomy 5:12-15; Hebrews 4

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the Feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be Holy Convocations, even these are My Feasts.  Six days shall work be done:  but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an Holy Convocation; ye shall do no work therein:  it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings."  Leviticus 23:2-3

There are seven different Holy Days to be observed unto God every year.  The first is the regular weekly Sabbath, which begins at sundown on Yom Shishi, "Friday" (preparation day), and ends on the Shabbat, "Saturday," at sundown.

As it is written,  ". . . And the evening and the morning were the first day," Genesis 1:5.  Accordingly, the way our Biblical forefathers counted the days was from sundown to sundown.  One day ended at sundown, and thus it was the beginning of the next.  Hence all Sabbath days begin at sundown on the previous calendar day--e.g., every weekly Sabbath begins on "Friday" at sundown, so all labour should come to an end every Friday at sundown through Saturday at sundown and likewise every special Shabbat begins at sundown the previous day.

"For he that is entered into His rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His."  Hebrews 4:10

What a relief.  Thank God for the Sabbath!!
