TERUWAH:  FEAST OF TRUMPETS (A.K.A. Rosh HA-SHANAH)

Ethanim 1, 5772 |  September 29, 2011

Leviticus 23:24-25; Numbers 10:9-10; Psalm 81:3; I Corinthians 15:52

"Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an Holy Convocation.  Ye shall do no servile work therein:  but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord."  Leviticus 23:24-25

"Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn
feast day.
"  Psaml 81:3

The Feast of Trumpets, a.k.a. Teruwah (Hebrew for "blowing of trumpets" or "joyful sounding"), and Rosh ha-Shanah (meaning "beginning of the year," having been confused for the first day of the first month "Abib" - Exodus 12:1-2; 13:3-4), signifies something coming!  The shofar (ram's horn or trumpet) was blown in times of important announcements, such as war or battle, the coronation of a king, a marriage, a promise of deliverance, Sabbaths of rest, new moons and Feasts of the Lord:

"And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the Lord your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.  Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God:  I am the Lord your God."  Numbers 10:9-10

This is truly an amazing feast!  It is a Sabbath day of rest (Leviticus 23:24-25).  Learn to blow the shofar!  It is the sound you will hear at the coming of the Messiah:

"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:  for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."  I Cor. 15:52
